Henry County Board of Education to Hold Millage Rate Hearings

HENRY COUNTY, GA – The Henry County Board of Education will host three public meetings in the upcoming weeks regarding the adoption of the millage rate for the 2026-2027 school year.

The Henry County Board of Education adopts two millage levies annually. The Maintenance and Operations (M&O) millage funds general operations, and the Bond millage allows the board to generate revenue to repay debts.

This year, the Superintendent plans to recommend a millage rate of 20 mills, a slight increase to the current M&O millage. The proposed millage supports the district’s budgetary investments in support of student learning, mitigates financial pressures imposed by state legislation, and supports the fiscal sustainability of the district. 

The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $325,000 is approximately $25.83, which equates to $2.15 per month. A rollback millage of 19.795 mills would mitigate the increase, but adopting the rollback rate would reduce funding for school system operations by more than $3 million.

Citizens can participate in the public hearings regarding the millage rate by attending in person or watching the livestream on the district website. The meetings will cover information regarding the millage rate adoption and its effect on property taxes.

Meeting dates and times are as follows:

• Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
• Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, at 9 a.m.
• Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Final adoption of the millage rate is set for Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, at the conclusion of the 4 p.m. meeting.
